Description
The Noetix Bumi EDU-Air is the entry developer edition of Noetix Robotics' compact humanoid robot: the same 98 cm, about 17 kg body with 21 degrees of freedom as the consumer Bumi, opened up for code. Every EDU edition gives developers motor-level control (LowController), Noetix's high-level motion commands (HighController) and audio and video access (MediaController) through an open DDS SDK for C++ and Python.
The EDU-Air has no on-board developer computer: your programs run on a computer of your choice and talk to the robot's motion-control board (Rockchip RK3576, 6 TOPS, closed to users) through the SDK. It suits courses and labs that already have workstations, and it is the EDU edition with image transmission to the NOETIX Run app. The EDU-Pro and EDU-Max add an NVIDIA Jetson computer and an Intel RealSense depth camera on board. This edition was previously listed here as “Bumi Edu”.
The SDK is open-source on GitHub under BSD-3-Clause and prebuilt for Ubuntu 22.04, and Noetix publishes the Bumi URDF model and developer documentation. Beyond development, the EDU-Air keeps everything the consumer Bumi does — walking, teaching mode, visual programming, audiobooks, voice conversation in Chinese and English and the full dance library, including high-intensity routines and the Chinese New Year dance — with a 4G/5G module alongside Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
The knee joints deliver up to 70 N·m, a camera and an IMU handle perception, and a 48 V 5.1 Ah quick-release smart battery gives 2–3 hours of runtime and charges off the robot in about 1–2 hours. The rear ports (Gigabit Ethernet, two USB 3.0 and HDMI) connect to the motion-control board.
Good to know: motor-level code runs below Noetix's own motion algorithms, so follow the Noetix developer documentation, keep people at a safe distance while the robot moves and, as Noetix advises, hang the robot on a support frame while you debug. Bumi does not run or climb stairs, is not waterproof and its modelled hands are not built to carry loads. Noetix is preparing EDU course material.
